Somet imes we are expected to understand other's point of view and join in a discussion but sometimes we are placed in situations where it seems like we have to agree with the person who is using the word 'race' and take their point of view.Race is not a word or a topic of discussion; it is a concept. In today's society we feel the need to have a close understanding of our fellow man. In other words, we need to determine if someone is of a certain group or if they belong to a different group. For example, if I am African American and someone says to me, 'How can you be proud of your heritage?' I would reply, 'Because I was born in Africa and I know my roots'.This is a social issue and not a simple issue as saying I am proud of my ancestry. I also know that it doesnot define me, but it is true. That is the only thing that defines me and nothing else.Another social justice issues is child abuse. Child abuse is actually a taboo in our society. We refuse to even address this issue, because it is seen as a family problem and therefore not something that is worth talking about.People do not abuse children because they are misbehaving or have been abused. It is important to understand that abuse is a real thing. It is a form of emotional and psychological abuse. It is not only limited to physical abuse.Today's world is full of different social issues. It is important to open your mind and listen to what others have to say. When you come from a different perspective, then you will understand things differently and more appropriately.
